Description

This book is the complete beginner’s guide to long range shooting written in simple every-day language so that it’s easy to follow.  Included are personal tips and best advice from my years of special operations sniper schooling and experience, and as a sniper instructor.  If you are an experienced shooter, this guide will be a resource covering the principles and theory of long range shooting.

This is the preliminary book to help you understand fundamental concepts such as MOA vs Mils and external ballistics, that can be like a trusted resource at the range.Learning to shoot long range isn’t that difficult. Once you understand the basics, you can start to master your technique and you’ll be hitting targets in no time.

The author has a series of online instructional videos known for their ability to take seemingly complex areas of long range shooting and breaking them down so that they’re easy to understand. This book was motivated by the feedback from those videos.

The handbook is broken down into three main categories: What it is/How it works, Fundamentals, and How to use it. “What it is/How it works” covers equipment, terminology, and basic principles. “Fundamentals” covers the theory of long range shooting. “How to use it” gives you practical advice on how to implement what you’ve learned so far to make you a long range shooter.

A portion of this book’s proceeds will be donated to two military charities: the Special Operation Warrior Foundation and the Sua Sponte Foundation.

A Well written, layman’s language and portable, so as to bring with you to the range as Handbook / Reference. Recommend, especially for beginning shooters. Also checkout Mr. Cleckner’s Instructional Shooting Videos on YOUTUBE, the B-E-S-T!!!

I’ve been an avid shooter for a long time and I really wanted to get into long range shooting. I actually read an article by Mr. Cleckner in another publication that I really enjoyed. So when I found out that he had a book coming out, I made sure I bought it as soon as it was available. I have been very satisfied with his book. Its written very much in layman’s terms and I have learned something in every single chapter. To be honest, I have learned quite a bit in every chapter. Even the chapters on subjects I thought I knew were insightful and informative. This has turned out to be one of the best purchases I have ever made when it comes to improving my shooting skills and knowledge and I will be on the lookout for Mr. Cleckner’s future books.

I wish he wrote it 5 years ago when I got into long range shooting. It would have saved me a lot of time and mistakes. Straight forward and easy to understand. A must for anyone starting out, and a great reference for those who wish to improve.

Cleckner is a wonderful teacher. Love his sense of humor throughout and the way he explains technical information in a fun easy to understand way. This is a must have for All Long Range Shooters. Everyone will glean something from this book, weather they are beginners or are long time shooters.

This is a great book that is an easy walk through all needed aspects of someone wanting to make an informed entrance into long range shooting.

I am not a reader. I don’t get excited about reading at all. Buuut i litterally could not put this book down. I took it to work, in the car, hell i read it on the couch instead of watching my favorite tv show. Very very informative in almost every aspect and the fact that most of his references were to a remington 700 308 made me giddy with excitement considering thats what i own. Only difference is he refers to his rifle which is close to mine, with a shorter barrel and better stock. Most of which are similar but as you will learn in this book, could be a world of difference in the ballistics. The diagrams and graphs/charts are laid out so 99% of people can understand them. There are ballistic charts and dope sheets in the back of the book. If you’re an experienced shooter like me and want to dip your toes into long range shooting this book will do you wonders! There are things he goes over that you will already know, like basics… buuut he also goea over them and explains them to a point where “oh no $#!+ thats what thats all about ok!! Now i have a better understanding!” Just trust me and get the book. 🙂 happy shooting!

So far only read about 20% but so far so good.
Seems like I’ll learn allot more about shooting then I already do from a novice book on long range shooting, it doesn’t jump right into LRS it tell u about equipment, teqniques everything you need to know to shoot long range…..this will even help an experienced shooter like myself get even better at the fundamentals……and again I’m only 20% in….btw did I say I want to read this book all the time and I hate reading…….with and passion Lol only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is bc I haven’t finished the book yet……plus I’m and disabled vet, and he donates part of the proceeds to veteran causes that in and of itself is amazing 5 star….

    Edit:
Read the book fully (took about 3 days spread out in a week or 2) it’s amazing…..sorry Ryan clekner for being a little late to edit the post but I will say to everyone I talk to I loved this book and your an outstanding teacher (I even watch his nssf videos on youtube)

This book covers a very detailed subject with intelligence and patience. Take each section as it is presented – some material may feel elementary – but as you
Work through the process – other parts will challenge you. When you put it together you will have a foundation of understanding that will allow you to be
on target at distances you can only dream about. A very well thought approach to long range shooting.

The Long Range Shooting Handbook gives a clear-cut, no B.S approach and explanation to the fundamentals of long range shooting. The amount I’ve learned from this book almost equals the volume of information contained therein.

It’s reassuring to know as you read that Ryan is a man of experience unparalleled by other sources of information on this subject. As he mentions, his methods may start internet flame wars, but then, what do they really know? In this book, you won’t find any useless, exclusive, sophisticated methods, but, rather, the straight truths and ways of the rifleman’s art. Ryan learned this art in an occupation where his life and others’ depended on the outcome. He is without question a master in this field.

Another thing to note is that many books on this subject which are introductory level, which the Long Range Shooting Handbook is meant to be, spend the whole book saying, “In (book, course, etc.) you will learn…,” wasting space with useless photos, or bragging of the author’s achievements. In reading Cleckner’s book, you will forget it is even intended as a “beginners guide to precision rifle shooting.” The cover should read, “An extremely comprehensive handbook guide to long range shooting.” And yet it still remains accessible to the beginner.

With such a huge success in a beginners handbook, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming sequel.

You won’t find a more comprehensive and valuable guide to the subject of long range shooting in layman’s terms anywhere. Period. If you consider yourself proficient in rifle shooting, do yourself a favor and buy this book. You’ll find important concepts you had no idea of explained in a way you will understand and easily be able to apply and take your shooting skills to the next level.

Another plus for Ryan is that, while he recommends products, he doesn’t spam, and only recommends tools of genuine usefulness. I’ve read some books that felt more like a catalog. None of that here!

I could go on forever, but, I’ve got shooting to do. The Long Range Shooting Handbook will be the absolute best purchase decision you’ve made for you shooting gear bag in quite some time. You won’t regret it, and you won’t be able to put it down.

Had never considered long range shooting before. I was given this book as a gift and have read it multiple times. Mr. Cleckner describes everything in simple to understand instructions. If you want a true beginners guide this is the book.

  11. Caphughes2505

I’ve been shooting my entire life and started getting more into long range recently. This book is very well written regardless of your experience. Ryan has a way of teaching that anyone can understand and grasp the information. Between the book, podcasts, and videos I have improved so much. I just wish I had found the book sooner. To Ryan thank you so much for your service and the wealth of knowledge you have made accessible to everyone and for making sure that its actually affordable for people like me.

  12. Phil

Thoughtful, informative read that provided useful material the average shooter can use. I will refer to it often while setting up my firearms for hunting and plinking.
